The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) administration has waken up to the mental trauma of its doctors. Following MAIL TODAYS report that five AIIMS doctors were admitted to psychiatric ward due to work pressure, the hospital has started 24-hour helpline numbers to address their issues. Lets Talk, a helpline portal, has been launched by AIIMS psychiatric division and resident doctors association so that doctors can share their problems.

This helpline will be managed by a senior resident doctor who will forward the grievances of medical students to the senior faculty of the department.Dr Pratap Sharan, professor of psychiatric unit at AIIMS, told MAIL TODAY, LetsTalk, helpline portal will work on four components for AIIMS students to live a positive life. First, we have mentorship programme in every department where students can share their problems to the mentors.

Second, we have workshops for undergraduates and graduates on how to have a balanced life with positive approach. Third, is counselling services which also include ehelpline. We would be counselling to our students by face to face interaction. Dr Sharan added that AIIMS is in the process of hiring dedicated five psychologists to look after students on query on mental health illness.

It is important to note that doctors at AIIMS are reeling with unbearable stress levels and mental troubles and in the past many have allegedly tried to attempt suicides.
